Vaping sucks &
it’s hard to quit.

Nicotine addiction is on the rise due to vaping culture. My co-creator (a vaper, herself) and I set out to design an app to help people quit vaping.

Goals

  • Build a mobile app that helps people stay nicotine-free

  • Provide motivation and support during the difficult journey of withdrawal and cravings

  • Design an experience that is friendly and relatable to GenZ and millennials (the majority of vape users)

My contributions

Design, creative direction, marketing

  • End-to-end UI & UX design

  • Sourced, hired, and managed graphic designer to create icons, logos, and badges

  • Wrote all copy throughout app and marketing materials

Straightforward onboarding to understand your vaping frequency

Designed to motivate & reward you for being a quitter

Empowering & educational while being relatable

Built-in distractions to beat cravings

Shame-free “off the wagon” option

Because like we said, quitting is hard!

Encouraging upgrades

Because we need $$ to make this thing stay afloat!

Escape the Vape is free to use, but we wanted to make a little passive income so we introduced in-app purchases for engaged users to level up their experience.

Introduced different touch points throughout the app to prompt user to upgrade. Saw a 131% increase in sales in the first 2 weeks post implementation.

Helping people quit every day!

Outcomes

  • Over 50k installs

  • Supporting 6k MAQ (monthly active quitters) in 2023

  • Doubled App Store reviews in a month with in-app review prompt

  • Overwhelmingly positive engagement & in-app community

    🥰 See below! 🥰

Next steps

  • Expand upon the “off the wagon” experience

  • Increase value to give users a reason to upgrade

    • more health milestones

    • improved community features

    • streaks — more flexibility & insight into user’s quitting journey

    • goals UX (tied to savings)

  • Allow value-aligned wellness brands to advertise in the app
